About Me
Dr. Tahirih Moffett, Founder of Common Humanity, APC
Hi, I’m Dr. Tahirih Moffett, founder of Common Humanity Psychology.
Let’s say it – life can be hard! It takes courage to ask for help and I’m here to help you on your journey of developing greater self-understanding and ability to manage your concerns better.
Family and relationship problems, microaggressions/discriminations, financial stress, and work and academic demands can sometimes feel overwhelming. Unmanaged self-critical thoughts and rejection of our natural emotions make it worse and can lead to depression and excess anxiety. You may find that the same coping strategies you’ve used in the past are no longer working or serving you well. Well, I’m here to nudge (and gently challenge you) toward developing effective coping tools, accessing your self-worth, and building your esteem to better deal with your challenging life situations.
As I walk beside you on your therapy journey, and you eventually learn how to be your own therapist, you’ll find you will begin to feel more connected to yourself, life, and those around you. This often happens through learning to develop a healthier relationship with yourself, your thoughts, your emotions, developing healthier habits, and gaining insight.
As a Black-identified, multi-racial therapist, I am committed to supporting my clients’ identities, including helping them navigate issues of race, culture, and other issues affecting marginalized communities. I am an 2SLGBTQ+ affirming therapist who believes all folx deserve a safe space, to be taken seriously, and to be truly heard.
I previously worked as a neonatal ICU RN for several years before changing my career to become a licensed clinical psychologist. I believe my medical background lends itself well to supporting medical students and professionals, as the medical culture can feel isolating when struggling with mental health concerns.
I feel honored to be a therapist. I believe my empathic, compassionate and warm nature will help you feel safe and secure. My style is holistic and kind. I also challenge my clients to step outside their comfort zone to promote growth. In my free time, I enjoy relaxing by the beach, hiking, dancing, spending time with my loved ones, reading, and exercising!
If you feel ready to take that step, and my style sounds like something you’d like, please reach out to me to begin your therapy journey. I look forward to meeting you!
